Can an employer lie on monster?
|
I applied for a job on monster.com , the company called me , one of the reasons i applied is because on monster under the job description it said that the salary was 46,000.00 to 48,000.00/year
Comission + bonuses + health benefits does this mean that its mostly commision . i went to the companies website , and under carreers it states that the position pays 11.00 dollars an hr . That is not evenclose to 46.000.00 a year unless they are expecting us to work like 70 hrs a week. AM i being mislead. can that company lie like that , i am confused. i am not sure if its that the website has not been updated , but wouldn't it be wrong to state a specific salary to prospective employeees?

It means that the base rate/salary is $11/hr and with commissions + bonuses (based on sales, which your commissions are also based upon), you can hopefully expect to make $46K/year (which comes out to $22/hr).
You also have to realize that if you don't prove your "worth" by selling a lot (of whatever it is they are selling) then you could be out of a job within 3 months. |

That's not a lie. The hourly pay is $11/hour which is roughly $23,000 a year. However, when they add the bonuses and benefits the total is between the $46,000 and 48,000 that they listed. Benefits (vacation, health insurance, etc.) cost employers money and they are allowed to add that to the actual hourly pay to get an amount. If it had said the salary was between $46,000 and 48,000 and didn't make any mention of commission+bonuses+benefits, then that would be wrong, but Monster and those type of sites are not "legal" meaning a company would not get in trouble for putting untrue or exaggerated information. The offer letter is the legal document and if that differs from what an employee is actually paid, that's where the trouble lies. |

The cost of your benefits is not included in the $11 per hour so that would increase the amount earned, and depending on the commission structure and bonuses it could reach that level of compensation.
Companies on monster often lie so be careful. Monster is not responsible for fraudulent ads that are placed. Agencies put ads on there to get resumes for bogus jobs. Beware of confidential listings! They are also ways for marketing scams to rope people in to sell water purification units, amway, and other upward mobile marketing scams. (Where you will only make money if you can get other people to come in and sell stuff and you get a commission) |

I love this question, because I have been wondering about that. I saw an ad for an Executive Assistant to make between $65k and $70K. What? I don't believe it, but maybe they are fluffing it up to include the total compensation package including benefits.....interesting. I applied for it, so I'll see what happens. |
