Nope. I have been on intermittent FMLA since December I still have 8 hours left. Intermittent means just that.

No, intermittent by definition means you won't take it all at the same time.

It depends on the laws of the state. I had to take an FMLA once because I had an intermittent leave situation, and my job told me to leave and not come back until it was over, because if I kepted leaving and coming back the way I was, I was going to be fired. I live in an at will to work state.

No they can not require you to take time off for FMLA. If the doctor clears you to work but need intermittent leave you can do it. Your employer should not requiring you to take FMLA. Talk to HR. If need be, seek out a lawyer. Sounds like they might be hoping you'll reach the end of your 12 weeks so they can terminate you.
