Can an individual teach with a drug felony charge?

My friend was found guilty in Texas of drug possession in 2001. He violate his probation in 2006. He is now on probation until 2010. he has over 100 college credits toward becoming a high school teacher. he has changed and grown up a lot in the last two years and i think would make a great teacher and role model. So, i was wondering if these mistakes will hinder him from acheiving his dream. He resides in Missouri now if states laws vary. i have no idea where to find this information.

It was weed and no, he does not and never did drugs. He was doing a stupid thing were he was picking up the stuff for someone else to make money...

State laws do very...have him look online for qualifications where he wants to teach and maybe ask the local law enforcement's school resource officers..good luck..but I don't think he can...I think any felony autmatically disqualifies, but I am not sure about some areas.(Missourian)

This happened to a friend. He was fired for telling a falsehood, NOT for the offense. SO do not lie, that is grounds for dismissal, the felony may not be. Had he told the truth he would still have his job.

Would someone really want to work in fear that any day you could be fired for the rest of your career?

This is not not only related to a state law for each state, but goes down to county and even city and town statutes. In all America if he is willing to move their certainly are places for him to work.

I wouldn't not tell this to a potential employer, your friend could get a job and when discovered, be taken out in handcuffs. Drugs + public education..could be a potential problem. Contact the school administration before applying and tell them the situation. Are they currently still doing drugs? Probably have to pass a drug test anyways, especially if it is a government job.

No. All school districts run background checks. Most, if not all, school districts prohibit the employment of felons - and not just as teachers.
