It depends on the individual. If you feel it's too heavy DON'T lift it. I have asked the same question in my works but no one will give a straight answer. |

There is no maximum only guidance.
It is all down to an assessment and individual capability.
Lots of things have to be taken into account.
What the item is, does it move, is it hot.cold sharp, can it spill, can you grasp it, where is it going, how far are you having to lift it whats the environment like etc etc. But most of all is the task repetative, how many times are you lifting?
If this is part of your job you should have received manual handling training you should also have had a manual handling risk assessment done for this paticular task. If the task is repetative then the risk assessment should make recommendations as to what the company is doing to eliminate the manual handling.
If you feel that something is too heavy for you to lift then it probably is, ask to see the specific manual handling risk assessment from your health and safety manager.
The hse has lots of information on manual handling and it does provide lifting guidance but that is what it is guidance, again.... if it feels too heavy for you then it probably is. |

Usually around 20-25 kg.Most companies are insured against injuries caused by lifting up to this weight.If you pick anything heavier & do your back in they will blame the individual.If you think something is too heavy don't lift/move it get somebody else to help or use a lifting device. |
