Can anyone quote me the law on employment policies?

Is there anything in employment law,
that states policies for example sickness/ holidays/ maternity policies, should be available for all staff to read???
I would be extremely grateful. Thank you. Additional Details I know that by law policies should be posted in the work place, but I want the actual UK law that states this.

To be quite honest i don't think there is a law on employees being specifically entitled to see company policies. |

Under Section 1 of the employment rights act 1996 you are entitled to received a written statement of employment setting out your main terms and conditions of employment. The statement has to include terms and conditions relating to incapacity for work due to sickness or
injury, including any provision for sick pay and terms and conditions relating to holidays, including public holidays and holiday pay (sufficient detail is required to enable the employee to precisely calculate their entitlement). It does not have to include any policies regarding maternity provisions. If you do not have a copy of your terms and conditions you would have a right to request this under the data protection act and you would need to submit your request in writing to your employer. If your employer fails to provide the information then you can report them to the information commissioner who oversees the enforcement of the Data Protection Act.
If you have never been given terms and conditions then you can apply to an employment tribunal for them to decide what the terms are.
All other policies are discretionary and therefore your employer would not be under an obligation to provide you with a copy. If they fail to do so then they would not be able to rely on the policy when taking any action against you. Therefore, as far as maternity etc goes you would have to assume that you get your statutory entitlement only and no enhanced benefits. |

The policies will be different for different businesses.
Why not ask your employer for a copy of their policies?
As far as the actual law goes - you could fill a book on it. And it varies wildly from business to business. Not all employers are required to offer paid holiday/maternity leave, etc. - too many variables. |

Each company generally has their own policies and many are subject to fed and state guidelines for compliance with certain and specific laws such as pay and compensation for hourly workers. States don't dictate company policies unless they are grossly unfair as determined by law. |
