Hi, It's against Health and Safety Regulations to be working on your own, in any environment let alone a factory environment. Get in touch with the union or a health and safety officer.

Kevina P is right (UK) there should be at least one first aid trained member of staff even if it is the security guard..If you are on your own you should only be asked to do a caretakers role without operating machinery or putting yourself at risk of the HaSaWaWA

Give this number a call. It's ACAS - 0845 7474747 and a government number to find out about Employer and employee rights.

Depends on your age and how many hours you work a week (if over 48 must opt out of the working time directive)

Mel
First, you should not be working independently in a factory. There are safety regulations regarding this (www.osha.gov)

Second, there are a lot of laws involving factory work - safety laws, wage and hour laws, union regulations, etc. If there is a particular area of the law that is a concern to you, please be more specific in your question. If you want to research yourself, visit www.dol.gov and look under the "wage order" for the manufacturing industry.

Good luck.

I agree with Albert - there is lots of polish workers who will take your job for less wages and work longer hours in the UK. Its happening everywhere in Scotland.

In the US time and a half is paid over eight hours.
with paid 15 minute breaks every hour and a half after. And the employer should provide a paid lunch for employees working 12 hours but no more than 14 hours a day.
