I have just quit a job where I recieved 15 minutes of paid break when I worked for more than 5 hours. When I went to pick up my last check, I recieved a note in which my employer stated that I must "pay for my breaks". Is this legal? What should I do?

If you are in the US, federal law requires that you be paid for 15 minute breaks although not required for lunches. So no, they can't do that.

If they established before hand that breaks are paid, then no it's not legal. They can change the policy, but they can't initiate that change only on the last paycheck without consenting you beforehand. |
