Can i be fired for calling in ONE time with perfect record otherwise?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can i be fired for calling in ONE time with perfect record otherwise?

I called saturday night to let my company know i would not be at work on sunday. I was told it would be an "unexcused absence" and i said okay.
When i showed up monday morning, there was someone there working my shift (i am a caregiver)
The lady covering my shift said she had been told that i quit.
When i called the office about it, they told me to leave and call the owner later.
When i called her, she said i was a no call, no show--but i called in on saturday night and talked to the on call nurse!
Now they are "discussing" whether i can keep my job or not.

Can i be fired for calling in ONE time, even though i have never called in before, or even been 1 minute late?
this seems totally unfair to me!
Additional Details
i have no idea why they would be trying to fire me. I've never had a single complaint about my work, and i work for a company that sends caregivers to homes of elderly people to care of them. They are already short-staffed as it is, so i don't know why they would try to get rid of me.
I'm so angry about this!

Sounds as though the "call nurse" is the key here
If the owner said that you were a "no call / no show"
this means that there was either no communication of
you calling in...or a misrepresentation of that fact....

This is highly irregular and, if you,in fact, are terminated
I would take this up with an appropriate contact with the
labor board... and, possibly an attorney...

If you have to call in again, either here or on another job, before you say "I won't be in", ask "Who am I speaking to, please?" Get the full name of whoever you've speaking to, the time, reason you called in, that person's response, and document. At the end of your conversation tell them you've documented the fact that you expect that person to give your supervisor your message. That way, she can't claim you never called in, because you've got it on record-and she knows it.

I hope you'll be able to keep your job. If not, please remember to always Cover Yourself by documenting, and never rely on anyone else. Assume that person could either innocently forget to relay the message, or intentionally forget.

I worked with someone who liked stirring up trouble and couldn't be trusted. I called in once to say I'd be late; then backed it up by calling Personnel. She never told my supervisor-but Personnel did. Eventually Personnel and every dept. put in Voice Mail so that put an end to depending on some not-dependable coworker to relay a message.

Good luck.

It is up to your boss really but there is no good reason or law that means he has to fire you or keep you on although i think that it would be unfair to fire you over a misunderstanding.

sounds quite out order to me. I suppose it depends on the employment laws in your country but here in the UK that would be illegal.
