3mths ago, i applied for leave of absence for 1mth to go back to my country(24hrs flight home ). They asked me the reason why i need that long off and I explain to them abt meeting my family which i have not seen for 4 years, introducing my 9mths old baby for the first time, celebrating my religious christmas, extending my passport etc.. Overall i have at least 13 things to do when i get home. First she said how abt 3weeks. I said its hard. Suddenly they give me letter and only approved for 14 days including weekend.
I am very upset because, there is couple of employee who can go off easily but when comes to me she's giving me hard time. My direct boss doesnt not have issue of me taking leave of absence. But our lady big boss is giving me hard time.( some people said that she is jeaolus of me! )
I am planning to call when my days expire and tell them i have medical issues and will produce the paperwork when i return.
Do you think they can fired me if i do that??

Yes. Your employment is at will and they can fire you for any reason at anytime. If you call in because you are 'sick' they will know you aren't because you already asked for more time off. |

Do you work in the USA? If so, then yes you can be fired for any reason in the world, including if your boss finds your perfume offensive. It's called "At will employment" and it's one of the greatest things about this country. Because it also means I can quit for any reason in the world with out notice. |

They can fire you for any reason, in fact many states they do not even need a reason to fire you.

if you lived in england, no. But i say spend some time with your family you can always find another job. especially if you do not want to make a career out of your job.
Family is much more important. if someone dies, how would you feel that you haven;t seen them for 4 years.
Your boss is an ***. And you can always find another job. |

yes they can unless you belong to the union. most times employers just dont want their productivity rate to go down and thus if other people requested time off during that time frame BEFORE you put in your request, they may not be able to spare that many people at the same time. i would speak to your boss and ask them if there is any way to negotiate this or if you could find another employee(s) to cover your shifts, it's only a week after all, and good luck to you! |
