am (or was) a checkkout operator at Tesco and was today handed a letter saying that my temporary had been terminated. I was originally in june/july and my contract was supposed to be 10 weeks over the summer. the 10 week period passed and so i presumed i had been hired on a long term basis. My question is can they now terminate my contract with only 3 days notice without giving any reason?
I suspect the reason is that i missed one of my shifts last saturday due to illness which may have prompted the termination of the contract, but i have been given no reason and no explanation of why it has suddenly been terminated, just a letter given to me by my supervisor and when i tried to find a line manager noone seemed to be around.

If you were with a temp agency as a temp on-going then your entitled to no days grace with respect to notification of being paid off. The only contract you sign is with the temp agency not tescos, you may sign a tescos work agreement on induction after reading and agreeing to the company's rules. |

Have you asked the agency you got the temp job through? they might be able to tell you, if you didn't use a agency, send them (Tesco) a letter and ask why your contract was ended, if there decent employers they will tell you why. |

Nothing you can do, unless the company handbook or the temporary contract, which will refer to the company handbook, say otherwise. Sorry |
