If the company had moved you to a different location, then you may have had a claim. But as you were the one who moved away, you will not be eligible. However, you should check your state's Department of Labor website, under unemployment compensation, to be sure. Also, you can see if there is any assistance for which you may be eligible, such as food stamps.

You CAN get unemployment if you quit - but not if you quit because you moved far from your job. Plus, you probably should have asked for a leave of absence because of your sick child & if they turned you down, then you might have a shot at unemployment.

I was told by the unemployment office that you can resign if you are in a hostile work environment and still be eligible for unemployment. I imagine there are other good reasons - like a sick child & inability to get a leave of absence - that would allow you to collect unemployment.

Moving 2 hours away from your job was a choice...you had a place to live before, and that wasn't necessary...I don't know who can afford a 4 hour commute everyday with $3.00 a gallon gas prices.

Your child having asthma is a chronic condition and there are tons of parents that have children with severe asthma that don't stay home with them all the time. You need to work with your pediatrician to see what causes the attacks and to keep him from getting sick.

In most states, no unemployment will be issued if you quit for any reason. You may want to check the laws in your state of employment but I am almost positive the business is protected. The only loophole for your move would be if the company moved away. You possibly can get federal funding because of your child though.
