First, if you were laid off you had to receive paperwork that states this. Second if you quitted, they suppose to have your resignation letter. Either way there must be some paperwork involved for any action, nothing can be varbal, otherwise it is not legal.
You need to send a certified letter to your boss with copy to the lower rank boss, stating the situation, ask for a meeting to put things in clear.
Even if you were still within your probation period, in which they don't need a reason to let you go, there's still a big difference between laid off and quitting.
At the meeting, if you still not satisfied with the injustice and the answers they will give you, mention that your next step will be to report this action to the Labor Commision Department for an investigation on your case. Look in Yellow pages for information in your area.
If you were in a probation period, remember that everything should have stated when they hired you, to let you know what is the probation period, sometimes could be 3 months or 6 months, it depends on their policies. So within these periods they can let you go without a reason, simply with "it's not working out". But still there is paperwork involved.
They either come up with a fair solution or you must hire an attorney.
Remember that if you stay with the company, it won't be easy, because there will be friction in the job after what happened. Don't put them as future reference. Good Luck!

If you really want the job that bad keep on trying, if he is not returning your calls he may not be receiving your messages, I would go and see him in person, keep calm and think of what youâ€™re going to say before you go.
Get some one to drive you for moral support.
Just remember that if you go back you have to deal with the other lower rank boss on a daily basis.

No. You are an at will employee and they can terminate you for any reason. I would go in person and speak with your boss (he probably knows the truth already and is part of it) and ask him why you were terminated. Sounds like a coward that got someone else to do his dirty work.

Keep trying to call, mail or email. If that doesnt work, be sure to know how truthful your source is. Then you may want to seek council from an attorney.
