Can my employee sue me .........?

i have an employee who didn't show up for 3 weeks because she was in the hospital... so i had hire someone else . she comes back three weeks later and i released her from her job, because the person i hired turned out to be a better employee then her ! now, can she sue me or can i get in any trouble at all ?

bq: and she just brought me a a form from dcf (department of children and families of florida - verifacation of employment/loss of income) to sign , she says its for her to apply for food stamps . should i sign it ?

If the employee was in a "work at will" job, then that employee can be fired, or quit for any reason or no reason at all, and without notice. General exceptions to this are union or contract employees that have something in their contract that covers this.

Additionally, there are laws and regulations that differ by state that address "job abandonment". In some states, if you are unable to work and do not call in within a set number of days, that is considered abandonment.

In order to protect yourself, it would be a good idea to understand your rights and responsibilities in the country/state/province that you are employing people. Contact your attorney.

Lastly, it would make sense that DCF would want verification from an employer. But I would guess that it would come directly from DCF.

You should contact your local SBA. Did you know that she was in the hospital? Did you pay her while she was there and then fire her afterwards? Too much info is missing
