I received my wage slip recently with a deduction showing, the deduction is for an over paid bonus. I never received notification of this deduction. Even if its correct, can they do this without notification?

Ok, i didn't know i was overpaid, its not a great deal and with the way my wage is structured i missed it. They say they overpaid me £50 and have taken back £50...... what about the tax i paid on the overpayment? Surely they owe me the tax back!? I know its not a lot, its the principle.

unfortunately they can
because you were aware of the overpayment so it would not be necessary to tell you.
you should have returned it or ask them to take a bit at a time if its a large amount. |

If you knew there was a previous over-payment, then yes they can.
If you did not get the bonus, then no they can't.
Simple. |

for example, when they take off fica (working medi care) and those standard government taxes off your payroll, do u get notified? no.
