Can my employer legally take away from my vacation time due to an old error on their end?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can my employer legally take away from my vacation time due to an old error on their end?

I started my job over a year ago with a benefit of 3 weeks of vacation.
Out of nowhere, my employer announces to me this week that they had made a mistake when they first hired me and erroneously placed me in the grade level that receives 3 weeks instead of one that only qualifies for 2 weeks.

Effective this week, they will take away 1 week from me. Is this legal? How can they do this to me over a year later?

(Not to mention, my colleagues at the same position and seniority level all receive 3 weeks).

This is unjust and I suspect illegal.

Thank you for any insight.

P.S I work in NJ.

Vacation is not governed by an Federal or State law.

Sounds like a case of "constructive dismissal" to me. What i mean by that is, they are hoping to get you mad enough to quit. Do you value the job or the weeks vacation.Think about it very carefully.
