I am wondering if I am able to quit my job without recourse from my employer.
I have already given them a week's notice but they are now stating the company's standard terms is 4 weeks. I found out recently I have no signed contract, no signed statement of particulars, only an offer letter stating 6 months probation, which am currently 5months into my probation period!
So can my employer sue me in light of the fact i have no real formal contract with them, or not one that I have signed or verbally agreed to after i leave on less notice than they state is required?

I don't think there would be any legal recourse. But not sure about the UK. Just remember you don't want to burn any bridges, it is always better to leave under good terms. |

No they can't sue you and they can't stop you from leaving. They're just saying that they like 4 weeks instead of 1 week notice, and they'll probably hold it against you if someone contacts them for a reference. |

I am not in the UK (USA), but I doubt that they can make you work there. I am sure you guys have anti-slavery and forced labor laws that will not MAKE you work anywhere! 4 weeks is absurd! The only thing that they can do is take back any sign-on bonus that you received for taking the position. |

"I have no signed contract" - if you never signed a contract then technichally they cannot sure you because you never agreed to work for them. contractually they havent got a hope in hell. tell them that you want to see the contract - if you never signed or agreed to it in any way then you dont need to.
just dont expect a referrence in future.
does the letter stating 6 months probation tell you that you should give 4 weeks notice? if the answer is no then you are fine to leave i think. |
