i have a job as a assistant manager in it computer company, with all the credit problem our company had cut back and decided to get rid of all the small teams and to make them into bigger teams to save money, well we had a man join our team today as an computer engineer, and he has kept his same wage, but the problem is he is getting paid £10,000 more the boys doing the same job as him, and also he is two grades below more but yet i am his boss and he is on more money than me, i feel really annoyed with this as it seems so unfair that my team is getting ten thousand less than him doing the same job and i am his boss and getting less than him, i know its not his fault as he been kept on the same wage as what his last job but his job role has changed to be in this job, do i have any rights to get more pay both for me and my team mates as they are really up in arms, any help will be greatly received,

This is entirely up to the company's policies. It's an awkward and unwieldy situation, but it is perfectly within their rights.
Keep in mind that you risk your own position if you reveal his salary to his coworkers.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot and it's why so many companies keep their pay info private. If the pay grades for his level and your level overlap and he is still within is level's pay grade, he can make more than you. Depending on how you found out this info, you could try talking to your superior about it, but unfortunately you don't have any "rights" to get more for yourself or your team. |
