Can they force me..................?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can they force me..................?

my manager is forcing me to go into their offices for a meeting tomorrow about a problem/disageement with co-workers (co-workers are blaming me for damaging equipment - they are lying, i have to defend myself)

im ill ive been to docs i have bad viral infection ive said im not well enough but they said ill get billed for items if i dont come in. they havent even suggested delaying meeting til im better i think its very selfish!

if i go i want to take a taxi as im not well, but it would cost £50 i think, they said they would pay for petrol if i drove but im not well enough the other way is if i get a taxi to train station then taxi to offices and vice versa.

help? Can they by law force me to attend ?
Additional Details
i cant get advice/help anywhere as its saturday should i call manager and ask them to delay meeting? this will probably give the liers time to hatch a story but i dont care.

You could actually Send them a Sick note from your Doc
And if they say NO you can sue them and that's there end of their line.

Hope That Helps

If you can get a sick certificate from your doctor to take medical leave for that day, they have to postpone the meeting to another day when you are well.

Employment law (in the UK at least) has very strict rules that govern what an employer may or may not do in the event that an employee is away from work for any reason, but particularly so in the case of illness.

Any case to answer in respect to what you may or may not have done while at work MUST be conducted once you have returned to work. Any attempt by the employer to effectively 'force' an employee to attend a hearing of this kind while said employee is sick is grounds for harassment, and makes your company liable to various lawsuits.

My advice - if your company has a HR representative, speak with them about the matter before returning to work. Also, if you are not a member of your respective sector's union, join as soon as possible. They will put pressure on your employer to conduct the matter in an appropriate manner when you return to work, and will help you build a case for harassment or victimisation if they fail to comply.

Good luck.
