Can you file for unemployment after being laid off from a seasonal job?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can you file for unemployment after being laid off from a seasonal job?

I have a friend who was working a seasonal job, and when they let him go, they told him he is welcome to come back when they get busy again, he would have to re-apply though.

So, basically, he was laid off, right?

He is doing "ok" financially, he can still eat, live, etc..., however, unemployment money would help him quite a bit.

Is he eligible to file for unemployment in the state of Indiana if he were in a seasonal position?

Yes. He should apply ASAP. It goes by how much you have worked the last 4 quarters (ie the past year).

Also he should contact county Jobs and Family Services for food stamps and for medicaid for any children.

Also he can call 211 for First Link and help with some bills and the food pantry.

For free or low cost meds, try
http://www.pparx.org and
http://www.copays.org

For free or low cost dentist or doctor, call the county health department.

Shop at thrift stores and flea markets for low cost clothes and home items and sometimes food items. The thrift stores sometimes have a 50% off day towards the end of the month too.

Every employer has what is called an EID, when your friend worked for them he should have been registered as a seasonal employee. If so, then he would not but eligible for UE insurance. BUT he should check in his state, just in case.
