I have a bookeeping side job that I had my hands tied on what I could actually do for the client, so he fired me and told me it was because he wanted someone with a more experience. Part was my fault, but mostly his. I was just wondering if you can terminate employment in the state of California through an email sent from his secretary, and not himself? Not that I am planning on sueing him or anything. I was just curious

It has been done before by Radio Shack and they got a lot of bad publicity over it. It's legal but not very ethical or very professional. Sounds like the boss wanted his secretary to do his dirty work for him. |

Unfortunately there is nothing illegal about it. My last employer (the damn coward) terminated me in this manner. In my particular situation I have a case pending against them (obviously there were many other factors) and the manner in which he terminated me has played a significant role in my case. Unethical? Unprofessional? Cowardly? Yes. All of the above. Be happy you are no longer with them. Absolute scum. |
