Can you refuse a paycheck from a job?

A few months ago, I accepted a job from a temp agency that I quit after one day. Since that day, the agency has constantly hounded me to submit a time sheet so I can get paid. What I didn't realize was that I could lose some of my unemployment benefits if I cash this paycheck. After a few weeks the agency sent me a paycheck already processed but without the time sheet which I refuse to cash. What should I do ?

you worked,
you were paid,
they have to issue your pay (by law) and it may be reported to the state ............

failing to cash the check does not change the fact that you worked and you should have reported it when you did your weekly or bi-weekly report for unemployment insurance benefits.

working one day will not effect your unemployment but failing to work when work is available will.
hiding the fact that you worked is fraud and can cause you to lose the benefits for up to 2 years and there is also the possibility of fines for committing unemployment fraud.

Send it back or toss it in the trash if you like. But you have one other problem. Unemployment isn't just based on not cashing that check. The fact that you were offered employment and declined it puts you in jeopardy and possible violation of your benefits. It's unlikely anything will ever come of it but thought you'd want to know all angles.
