Can you walk out of a new part time job and still get payed?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can you walk out of a new part time job and still get payed?

......for the work you have done. I have been doing a 2hr a day job for 2 weeks and have signed no contract yet but cannot afford the petrol it is costing me to get there every day. Do they by law have to pay you for the work you have done to date?

Theoretically without a contract of any sort that's going to be extremely hard to prove. I'd try and resolve it with the employer first. It does sound weird to take on a two hour a day job (which is gonna net you, what 12-15 quid a day) somewhere that's gonna cost you petrol to get to and from in the first place.....

If you want any respect, don't just walk out, tell them that having only 2 hour shifts is costing you too much to get there and that you are leaving. Or ask if there is a way to get longer shifts fewer days. If they can't offer anything different then tell them that, say, Friday is your last day. Then you have been mature about it. For time already worked they are supposed to pay you.
(Here our laws require a minimum of a 3 hour shift too...probably for that reason...)

I believe they do...if you are on the payroll/hired you have to be paid.

Of course they have to pay you. Even if you only worked one day your entitled to your wages from that day.
