If the background check proves you lied on your application or during your interview, then yes.

Yes they can. Most aplications and offer's of employment have a clause that is contigent on things such as background check and/or drug testing. So if you lied on your application, or did not divulge a conviction, etc. you can be terminated.

You bet. If they used a third party agency to conduct the background check (most employers do), then you are entitled to a copy of the report that resulted in your termination (see Fair Credit Reporting Act).

Yes, if you did not disclose or lied in your initial application then your employer can let you go.

yes... in most states unless you are in a union or have an employment contract, a employer can fire you because his toast was burnt by his wife that morning.

Yes, don't commit crimes in your next lifetime. Most employee's positions are pending the results of background checks. That is why company's do them

Most employers can fire without cause, unless you're in an affirmative action class (i.e., not a white straight male)
