I found a job on craigslist, and only worked there for a day for various reasons. The job was 12/hr and was expressively a PAID TRAINING job. I worked 9 hours (paid for 8, 1 hour lunch) but I decided it was not what I was looking for, and haven't gone back since.
I should have received a check last Friday, but whenever I call I keep getting the run around claiming the person I need to speak to isn't in the office. What are my options?
Also I live in CA, so I'm pretty sure they're obligated to pay me for training...

By federal law in the US, not just in CA, a company is required to pay for your training time. Call your state or federal department of labor. |

The first step would be to write a demand letter to the company, asking for payment of the wages due you. Keep a copy so it is documented in writing; send a copy to the person you worked for directly as well as the HR person (if the company is big enough to have one.)
If that doesn't work, go to www.dol.gov, wage and hour division - you can file a claim for unpaid wages. |
