Could I get fired?
|
Well I was written up about a week ago for missing work. I have a medical condition and my doctor provided notes. Anyways I was ill on Friday and called in. The warning I signed indicated if the problem continues I could be fired basically. Do you think they will fire or give me another warning?

I think that if you want to keep you job, you will show up even if you are sick, and you will work hard enough to show that you are a very valuable employee, who the company will be willing to make concession about.
There is also a cardinal rule.
Never miss a monday or a friday because unless you died, they won't beleive your excuse.
But if you really want a day off, don't show up on the day they issue cheques (if they still do) they will beleive you if you miss payday. |

If you have a medical condition, get FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) certified thru ur doctor. That act prohibits your job from firing or disciplining you for missing work and it gives you 12 weeks of unpaid sick leave GUARANTEED by the government. |

I don't know the law but I am under the assumption that you can't or shouldn't be fired if you have health problems. I think that opens them up to a law suit so be sure to document all time off work and just keep giving the medical notes, but you keep a copy, to your employer. |

A doctor's note has no legal bearing with your employer. It proves you visited a doctor's office (or you are friends with someone at the office who would write out your note), but you still missed work.
If you missed a lot of work, you're a problem for your employer. They hired you to work.
If you have been at your job full time for at least a year, and if there are least 50 employees, you may be entitled to FMLA . It does save your job, BUT, FMLA is for serious health conditions, so it's possible your condition does not qualify. You would need to speak to someone in HR, or check your employee handbook for the rules on FMLA |

The point is that your employer needs someone who can be there to complete the work that you were hired to do. Employees who are out frequently (for whatever reason) are demonstrating that they are expendable. If you must be out to the degree that your work is not being done or that others are required to take time from their own assigned tasks to cover your work, the company must find a replacement to be sure that the work is completed. Yes, you can be fired for missing work. I think that, if they don't fire you immediately, you are employed on borrowed time. This is nothing personal; it is business, which is the reason that we all work. I wish you well, and hope that you are able to find treatment for your condition that will enable you to obtain and keep full time, gainful employment. |

dear blue,
you know i understand when you say you have a medical condition, and your Dr gives excuses but....... you have to understand that where you work ....they have policies too, they need your body there to work for them....... that's why you were hired...... if your not there to work then the work load shifts to all the others that showed up and that's not fair to them.....now they have to pull your workload as well as their own.. and the company is not getting their moneys worth when you are not at work there is an empty workers space that they could fill if you were not working for them so be careful....try to work even if your sick if you can or find another job that's more understanding of your illness.... not trying to be be mean just honest....:)
as far as getting written up for missing work.they have every right to do that ....and if you keep missing work yes you can be fired.....usually 3 write ups and your fired....be carefull |

Did you ever notice, whenever someone is out sick it's always on a Monday or Friday.
No one is ever sick on a WSednesday or Thursday.
Whenever someone who works for me clalls in sick on a Mon or Friday, my rteaction is usually "bull----!"
Many people have a medical history a mile long, and except for medical appointments known in advance, such as surgery, they never call in sick. |
