Criminal Record and Internship?

Criminal Record and Internship?

I'm going to be a senor in college majoring in Business Admin. Next summer, I want to get an internship at a financial or accounting company. However, I when I was 18, I commited a misdemeanor act that unfortunately is on my record. I am now 22 and desperately need working experience and an internship. Will they see my record? Are there any ways around it?

You never want to risk the employer discovering something on your background check that you didn't tell them about. A criminal check will reveal misdemeanor and felony offenses. The best thing you can do is explain the matter fully on an attachment to your application, AND explain that you're a good boy now and you don't do whatever it was you did anymore.

Apply for the internships and just be honest about you past. don't try to lie about it or make excuses.. just own up to it and tell him that you have changed.

There's a lot of people out there that make mistakes. Take for instance I had a few misddemeanor charges from 16-19 years of age. I'd say around 3 or 4.

After having my son at age 20, i've not been pulled over, been in trouble and am a very faithful person who trys to do all things as right that I can.

And my career is a Corrections Officer at Correctional Facility LOL And when I had my interview, I just let them know after talking to them a few minutes that "Just so you know" in my past I had been a little wild and did some things I shouldn't have.

The positive side to it was, I learned from my mistakes and am a stronger person, which is why i'm here doing what i'm doing now.

But to make a long story short........ This old saying will never fail you........... "Honesty is the best policy"

Best of Luck :)

I would go back to my probation officer and ask him exactly what is showing on your record. Then, when I applied for work, I wouldn't mention the misdemeanor (or even a felony for that matter) until I was half way through the interview. If you sense they like you, then just be open and honest without giving too much detail.

I know several people who had similar problems. good luck.

Usually they would be concened about felonies. I guess it depends on how indepth their backround check is if they would see it or not. I wouldnt lose to much sleep over it.

I guess you will be Ok. If they are not asking, don't say anything. If they ask, answer it firmly - and say time and experience change people. And never again that you will put yourself in that situation. I don't see the past in a negative way but in a positive way. I learned life the hardway and I know there's always a second chance for me.

If you have a better version - use it. and Good Luck!
