Criminal background check question?

Criminal background check question?

I am completing paperwork for a position with Chase bank. One of the questions is about being convicted of a theft. I was convicted 15 years ago of a class c misdeamener theft for $0 - $20.00. Though I have tried to get this expunged, sealed, and set aside I cannot seem to do so in Texas becouse of the conviction, i've spoken to several lawyers. So my question is this, do I have any chance at all of being hired in an administrative position, not in the bank, with this on my record. It is the only thing on it and it was a small amount 15 years ago. Is it the banks policy becouse of the FDIC or is there any leaway for the hiring managers to decide to go ahead and give me the job?

Additional Details
Thanks for all the quick replies. I just have a follow up question. I think it is a bonding issue becouse it is a financial institution and has to do with the FDIC. Do you think the bank hiring manager has a say or is it black and white if you have a criminal conviction you can't be hired?

15 years ago...no problem...
employers are looking for flags like recent dwi's, felony's, etc...
don't worry about it.

if it shows they can still hire you but it should not even show up.
if they use a "service provider" to do a background check then this should not be reported. the service can only report criminal information that is from the last 7 years or less or still within the statues of limitation for the crime.
just be honest if asked about the misdemeanor but don't worry yourself about it.
this will only effect your future if you allow it to.

I am not exactly sure about their hiring policy, however I am going to suggest that you be sure to let them know that you have this on your record while filling out the application, however I also suggest that you let them know that you "will explain in Interview" if you are given that opportunity. Also, take a copy of the receipt that you paid the fees that were given to you regarding this matter showing the case is closed. Good Luck!!! I'm sure they will take that in consideration.

Finish the paper work, list the theft and ask to discuss the matter in an interview or if they do not hire you because of it.
They might be willing to talk to you especially if you agree not to use it in a lawsuit.
It might matter if you will be handling money.

Just apply. The worst that can happen is they don't hire you.

If you don't apply and try to get the job, you will let your 15 year old conviction hang over your head for the rest of your life.

I can't understand why it cannot be expunged? Get a different attorney.

As long as you have no other charges in your criminal history, I don't see this being a problem. I guess it also depends how old you were when the incident occured. I am sure 15 years later since you have never been charged again with another theft charge, this shows that it was not a pattern of behavior, just a boo-boo.

Good luck!

If it's a bonding issue, there is no fudge factor. It will be strictly black and white. The bonding company won't cover people with convictions.

Frankly, I think there are a lot of qualified people looking for jobs. When that conviction shows up in your background check, they are going to pass on hiring you and pick another qualfied applicant without convictions.

I can tell you from experience that Chase has their own security, and will find your record. I was fired from a subcontracting job with Chase because they revoked my security clearance over an arrest (no conviction) 38 years ago. If they hire you please let me know.
