What is the difference between a Law Clerk and Legal Secretary, what are the duties of each job and is there a diff. in pay?

A law clerk is usually someone who is in law school and working for a law firm/judge, etc. during the summer (or sometimes during the school year, part time). The law clerk is assigned to research and/or prepare legal opinions, pleadings, and/or discovery.
A legal secretary works for a law firm. She (usually the secretary is female) transcribes dictation, opens/sorts mail, makes copies, answers the phone, calendars deadlines, etc.
Yes, there is a difference in pay. Entry-level legal secretaries and law clerks can start out at the same rate, but the pay raises are not as good for legal secretaries. |
