What we would like to know is.....Is it discrimination if your boss (or his 2ic) plasters notices up on the wall for the public (meaning the customers) to see.... The notices are: 1. About theft apparently going on in the shop...and staff is to read and sign.... If staff are working solo then a receipt is to be printed and signed before putting in the till... 2. Staff Rosters - They are put up on the wall for not only the public to see but a STALKER (which happened to a staff member) to see...
the 3rd is: A sign was put up about jobs that were meant to be done every shift, but that ain't a major...
The problem is....... There is a place for the notices to be put up so that the staff can read and sign them (which is in the back of the store where the staff collect their wages slips) BUT for some ridiculous reason they have put them up on the wall for the WORLD to see....
Now that I have had my b*tch ramble...please feel free to break it down for me if it is discrimination or not....

I've just been notified that the notices were actually pinned for 1 person... I have left the job through all the hassles happening there but feel sorry for the person the notices were for... even if she isn't a nice person to work with.. no body deserves to be treated like that......

I don't know about discrimination, but it is certainly putting female employees at risk for strangers to get their names and stalk them, etc. I don't think they have a right to post your names in public places. |

You have a good point, but not a real complaint. The reason is this. Many notices are required to be made public. You can get in real trouble if you don't. It is not even always logical what has to be public, and the laws are obscure and indefinite in many cases. Therefore, an employer has to err on the safe side and your privacy suffers as a result. This is the way it is now. We both wish it was different. |

do u understand what the word discrimination means? no they are not treating you differently than other employees. it may be not the best practices but not illegal |

It isn't discrimination...the definition of discrimination is treating people of a certain type differently than others. This guy is being an idiot, but he's being an equal-opportunity idiot.
The rosters could interfere with employee rights to privacy, however, a topic that has been getting more attention in the legal community as identity theft becomes increasingly prevalent. The stalker thing could theoretically be construed as negligence on the part of management, for posting the notices where a stalker could get to them.
The rest is just p*ss-poor management, sad to say. |
