Do I have legal rights to be compensated by my employer?

Do I have legal rights to be compensated by my employer?

If I give my two weeks notice to my employer and he fires me a few days later or tells me not to show up anymore, is there a law stating that he still has to pay me for 2 weeks because I gave him a notice? Please help me!

In the US, no.

And you can't claim unemployment now because you decided to terminate the employee/employer relationship - the employer just sped it up a little.

Sometimes, it is in the employers best interest to dismiss an employee that is leaving so as not to stir the pot with the others.

I don't think so.

Unless there is a written company policy stating that your employer will give you X number of days notice, then no he does not have to. Many employers decide that they can do without an employee once the employee gives notice.

Nope, he can terminate you immediately if he wants to. His only obligation is to pay you for the time you actually worked.

LOL. NO why would he have to pay you if you did not do the work?

No, unless your state law says otherwise, or there's a company policy, you are not owed compensation. However, since you gave notice before you were told to leave, you quit, you did not get fired, which looks a LOT better to a future boss.

By law, he cannot fire you or tell you not to show up for work. The best people to help you with this problem will be the employment commision. If he does fire you, he needs to have a valid reason why.
