Do I have to disclose my age when applying for a job?

Worried about age discrimination

If you present your cv showing your education with dates, then it is impossible to conceal your approximate age, at least. If you alter the dates, then you could potentially lay yourself open to criminal charges. I once worked with someone who took ten years off her age and in fact was working well beyond retirement age, which caused problems with the company pension plan as well, presumably, with National Insurance (which a woman is not allowed to pay over the age of 59). I didn't ask about the details, but as soon as she was rumbled she left the company. If you can, by legitimate means, avoid disclosing your age while still being considered for interview, then do so. If you are being cagey about it at interview then you will probably arouse their animosity and not get the job, as for practical purposes they need to know.
Older women won't want to take maternity leave or go off sick after a tiff with their boyfriend. They have a lot to offer in the workplace. If these people are as up-tight about age as you imagine, you probably don't want to work for them anyway.

In the US, no, unless you are under 18. Under 18's are subject to different work rules than adults. Otherwise it's a secret until they hire you, then they'll ask for your birth date. The people in HR can usually tell quite accurately your age even before they see you by looking at your graduation dates from high school or university.

no. they can't ask that.

Heavens, no! In fact, you should remove any references to your age (graduation dates, very early jobs) from your resume.

It is also illegal for employers to ask you any questions that might lead to age discrimination (for example, "how long do you plan to work before retirement?"), or for an employer to require you to disclose your age before an offer is extended in writing (for example, asking you to list your age or graduation dates on an application form.)

Best of luck to you.

Yes. you can worry about age discrimination, but the employer needs to know your birthdate on an application. I'd be more worried about walking into an interview where your age shows than I would disclosing my age in an application, though...

no, and dont put what year you graduated from high school either, only a Y, for yes....

But I am sure they will figure it out.

Determined to get there!
no but they can tell I think when they look at you

yes, you do. Age must be known in order to prevent discrimination. If you feel that you are being discriminated against, notify the employer and its higher levels of management.

They will ultimately discover your age, however, it is a blantant violation of fair employment practices if they were to discriminate based on age. You should be fine.

EDD already send me UI check but employer appeals, I lost the hearing, the issue statement page of findings of fact, the date, time, and fact are wrong, I already file CUIAB Board Appeal, who respondsible for those mistakes,is it ALJ's. I applied a job,had an interview 2 weeks before, the interviewer called me and asked My age, I said 60 years old,and he hang-up the phone,is it against the law, what can I do.
