Do I need to give 2 weeks notice when leaving my current position as a registered nurse?

Do I need to give 2 weeks notice when leaving my current position as a registered nurse?

I am still in the 90 day probationary period. My schedule has been changed from day shift to night shift and back to day shift in this short period. I am not very happy at the job and would like to leave as quickly as possible. I called my supervisor 2 times and she did not return my calls. I finally emailed her and then stopped in her office this week. I explained that I would be happy to stay on part-time but the schedule at the present is not working for me. She refused the part time offer and said I should find another co-worker to switch schedules with.

well you could find another co-worker to switch schedules with. being brand new its doubtful they will work with you. If you want to leave, its always best to give two weeks notice. i'd find a new job first though.

Legally, unless you signed a contract agreeing to two weeks notice, you aren't required to give notice. It's the professional thing to do though.

You don't have to but you certainly should. Never burn bridges when you quit a job no matter what the conditions. Networks are pretty tight within industries so it wouldn't be unlikely that your next employer might know someone at your current employer.

Don't give your 2 weeks until you have another job.
