Do i have to join the police to do child protection as a career?

I have been asked by my tutor to look at course in university but im unsure what to do.
I know i can join the police force when im 18 and a half but do i need to.
I wont to be a child protection officer and need to know information about how to become one,
if you have any details about it please spill, thanks.

Check out your local Division of Youth and Family Services Dept. Also, Social Workers deal with child protection.
