I was just let for from my job and had 27 hours of vacation time built up. Do they have to pay that? If the state you live in matters, i live in GA.

I shouldnt have to ask for them to pay this right?? It should automatically be paid in my last check right?

NO, maybe (depends on company policy)
Georgia has no laws regarding this so the employer must follow their stated policy. if they don't have a policy then IF in the past the have paid accrued time that would set a precedent. they would need to continue to follow that precedent until they implement a written policy.
in most of the states that do mandate payment of accrued time off the employer does not have to pay it if the employee is terminated (one of the exceptions is California). |

It depends on your state and the laws there.
My hubby worked for his employer 4 years and was NEVER PAID his leftover vacation time.
So...I would look into it but don't get your hopes up. We did and we were let down.

there is no federal law that says you must be paid PTO, it is the company policy, if it their policy to do so then they must otherwise they can do what they want |

It appears that you are taking about accrued vacation. No Federal Law governs vacation.
Some states do but Georgia does not, The Company can do whatever it pleases. |

it depends if it is considered vacation time or time off, also it depends on how long you have worked there. Sometimes it states in your office by laws that you have to be employed so many days for you to get the time off or vacation days, usually its 60-90 days |

Yes that is earned time off and they leagally must pay you for it. It is a federal law. |
