Ordinarily it takes 7 years, but there are exceptional students that can do it in less time. You would have to give up some summers. It's really not worth the rush because there's no hurry to get into the job market at this time. Economic forecasters are predicting our economy to tank within the next few years. |

I did it in 6 - 3 years to complete a BA, 3 years for JD.
I'm glad another attorney out there is pushing for more dentists and less attorneys! |

No, it won' t be less. To become a lawyer, you have to get an undergraduate degree first. That takes about 4ish years. Then, you have to go to law school, and that will take about 3 years. In total, you are looking at about 7 years to become a lawyer. The 7years goes by very quickly, though. Before you know it, you will be done with your undergraduate degree, and you may find yourself getting very excited about starting law school. If you aren't interested in doing that much schooling, though, you could always look into paralegal jobs.

I went to law school with two women who graduated college at 17 and law school at 20. They both finished at the top of our class. Both were super bright, but neither was very nice, and both were immature with dubious social skills. One of them had been engaged 3 times before we graduated. One is now a deputy U.S. Attorney, and the other is a partner in a big law firm -- both very successful.
What does this mean? Yes, you can do it in less than 7 years, but would you want to? How NOT FUN would it be to blaze through the best years of your life just to finish school quickly? And if given a choice, what kind of client wants to hire a lawyer who is barely old enough to drink a beer legally and can't rent a car most places? |
