We are a contract based company in Texas and we recently had a subcontractor doing work for us. We are no longer giving him any work due to the fact that he was approaching our customers on the side and trying to get his own contract with another guy he partnered up with. We recently found out that he has sent a false & slander-est e-mail to one of our customers anonymously from his home e-mail address about our company. Do we have any legal grounds to take action at all? One of our customers employees "quietly" traced the e-mail back to his home, but asked that we not reveal how we found out. This person is now going to other people that work for us and trying to get them to work for him as well.

If you have absolute proof he sent slanderous emails then absolutely you have a case. Take a copy of the email to a lawyer and find out what your next step should be.
