Do workers have more rights in the United States or the UK?

why?

Worker's have more rights in the UK. All US states (with the exception of one) are employment at will - meaning you can be fired for no reason. Holiday, sick and vacation pay are not required - and even companies which do grant vacation pay usually only grant 10 days in the US. Health coverage is also not required. And if a company does grant health coverage, employees pay a significant chunk of the premiums.

The most noticeable difference is labor (more commonly called union in the US). Most US companies are not unionized. In fact, in the southern states, less than 2% of the workforce is a union member. Unions have much more power - especially politically - in the UK. There is no Labour Party in the US - nor is it likely there ever will be.

Why? The US has generally has a mentality of "sink or swim". It is up to an individual to succeed or not. If you are fired for unfair reasons (so long as it is not discriminatory) tough luck.

This also makes the cost of workers less expensive than other countries - which attracts companies and therefore US employment. As our world becomes increasingly borderless, companies are constantly moving operations from high cost jurisdictions (mainly high cost due to govt. regulations) to lower cost jurisdictions.

So that's the reason. It's a point of constant debate in the US. There are many differing opinions as to what we should be doing, or what should change.

EU workers have more rights overall than the UK
UK have more than the US

The UK has "opted out" of some of the EU employment legislation but they will sign upto it all eventually.

Dont know about the us but i would guess we have more in the uk because of all the stupid european laws.

I live in the U.S. and have no idea what the "workers rights" and laws are in the U.K....so don't know answer to your question.

In this forum of YahooAnswers, generally persons in one country are not commonly knowledgeable of the "workers rights" and laws of other countries.
So I'd think any replies you'd receive to your question here will either be hearsay or just their opinion.
