Do you get paid time and a half if you work on Memorial Day ?
Find answers to your legal question.

Do you get paid time and a half if you work on Memorial Day ?

A friend of mine told me that you get paid time and a half on a few holidays, one of which being Memorial Day.... is this true?

It depends on your employer. That is true for many companies but it's not required by law.

Yes, many employers pay time and a half for working on Memorial Day. It depends on your employer. It is not required by law.

Depends on your job.some employers do pay time and a half for holidays including Memorial day.

That completely depends on where you work and who you work for, what your job is and which laws apply to the employer. In the case of my husband, double time since he gets paid for the holiday and he also gets paid for the hours worked on that day. In my own case, same company, no extra pay since I'm salaried.

Yes, This is true and you can verify this with your Employee Handbook.

Thanks for working and taking the time and one half hourly rate benefit.

Time and a half is only required when you WORK over 40 hours a week and are a non-exempt (hourly) employee. If you company does pay holiday pay (which is not required by law to be paid), and you work the holiday, then in essence you are receiving double time for that day as you are being paid for the time worked as well as being paid for the holiday.

As everyone else said, it depends on who you work for.

For example, if I were to work Memorial Day or any holiday my employer would pay me triple time (the pay I would have received for my day off, and then double time on top of that).

Since Memorial day is a legal holiday in the United States it would depend on weather you are paid by the hour or if your are salaried.

If you are paid by the hour Federal laws states that you would be paid 1.5 times your normal rate. If however you are salaried you would receive your normal pay for the week weather you worked or not.
