I personally do not put down my ss # there is no reason as to why I would do that unless I have been hired. what I do on applications since you don't know really know who you're giving it to, leave it blank or write will provide info at time of hire/employment that usually does it. now, if this a company that needs to run your credit for eligibility to hire you, then I would but make sure you give your app to hiring manager not anyone else there. although I would still feel a little uneasy but hey some jobs do require to run your credit to determine if they want to hire you. mostly places where you would be handling cash,banks, mortgage,collections etc....they require this info.
