Do you think this will work?

I was thinking about calling local law offices and asking for an unpaid or volunteer internship to gain experience as a legal assistant/paralegal. Has anyone ever done this and been successful?
Additional Details
I have a bachelor's degree.

it can't hurt to ask, the worse that can happen is they say NO........

NO i don't think it will work but that is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions......

since legally you can NOT be considered a volunteer at a "for profit" business if you perform any duties that an employee would normally be paid to perform technically you would be an employee and as such subject to all labor laws.....a law firm should be aware of this fact......

volunteering at a nonprofit or doing an unpaid internship through an accredited school program are not subject to these laws.

Without prior training or education you will not be given an unpaid internship. It costs the firm money, since they pay a staff member to train you. Go back to school
