Probably. In the agreement that you signed with lawyer #1 it may have stated that the person you signed with would not necessarily be the person who represents you. Also if the agreement was between you and the law firm, then you agreed to have the firm or any lawyer in the firm, represent you.
In many firms who have multiple attorneys the senior partner or a lawyer who is in a management position, does the initial consultation with the client. That particular attorney may be in a position where all he/she does is meet with clients and then assign other lawyers to the cases. The lawyer you met with may then have some supervisory contact with the lawyer assigned to your case OR in many large firms, never look at your case again.
Why is this done? Large law firms, like any large company, does this as an efficient way to operate. Just like when ordering a cake at a large bakery, the person who takes your order probably will not go in the back and bake, decorate, and box the cake.
In Chicago we have a very large bankruptcy law firm. The attorney who owns the firm does the tv advertising and does the initial interviews of clients. After that the client is given to a non-managment attorney. It is legal because the client contracted with the firm (firm name just happens to be the owners name) not the owner as an individual.
What you can do about it? Call or make an appointment with the attorney you initially spoke to. That is very important because he may not be aware of any problem. Good luck. |

no they do not have to tell you. All the attorneys work for the firm so at any time, any attorney can work on your case. You should know if you hire a firm, any or all attorneys that work for the firm, could work on your case. |
