If you are employed in England, Scotland or Wales you are entitled to 4 weeks paid leave as per the Working Time Regulations 1998, whether you are full-time or part-time. This is due to be amended in October 2007 to 4.8 weeks. See below for more info:

basic minimum is 4 weeks annual leave.

what does your contract say?

It's normally 20 days per year, based on working 5 days out 7 or more. Your contract should also make allowances for public holidays, if you work them you should be given double time or a day off in liew.

Unless your contract gives you more you are entitled, under the working time regulations, to a minimum of 4 weeks' paid leave (so if you work 5 days a week, that equates to 20 days). In the UK these 20 days are inclusive of bank holidays - but as you say you don't get them anyway that is irrelevant.

In the UK, the Working Time Directive states that each employee is entitled to 20 days (4 weeks) paid holiday as a minimum. Your contract may state that you are entitled to more than this.

At present there is nothing to say that you get Bank Holidays off as well, but there is currently a consultation document going through Parliament at the moment suggesting that the 8 statutory Bank Holidays should be added to the 20 minimum days.

However, this has not yet been passed through Parliament, so all you need to know is that you are entitled to a minimum of 20 days at full pay per annum.

A full time worker is entitled to 20 days . This includes bank holidays . most employers are not that mean and add the bank holidays on , but it is not a legal entitlement. Leave is earned 1.5 days every month so if take a week off and leave in month 4 for example they can dock your pay

In the US, you're not due any holidays. Employers grant holidays per their own policies; there is no legal requirement that they provide any holiday time at all.

Sorry.

Depends what is in your contract of employment. Usually you agree your holidays when they offer yuo the job.

caring_sensitive_medic
everybody in the uk should get the eight days public hols that is law or time and a half or day in lieu

adverage is about 20 working days ie four working weeks

You are LEGALLY entitled to 20 days a year. Plus 8 days at any time at your employers choosing in respect of the Bank/Public Holidays - you will DEFINITLY get Christmas Day as ALL shops are closed then.

If this helps, there are 6 major holidays in the US. These are: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas & New Year's. Once upon a time I worked at a shop & got these 6 as being the major ones. Today I get 12!!! plus many others, lucky me :)

depends on what your employer allows

in uk you are eligable to twenty days plus your bankholidays if you work your bankholidays then you will or are entitled to day in lieu
the goverment have just changed how this works and from oct this year you are entitled to a extra four days which will rise to an additional three next year making seven in total so by law they will have to give you 27 days leave but this will cover bank holidays

If you're in England you are entitled to a minimum of 15 days a year. You are not entitled to public holidays, I work for an employer who only gives 15 days a year with no public holidays saying that if I wanted to take them they come off my leave. (this includes Christmas). I checked and was told this was correct.
