Does anyone have Paralegal certificate if yes, how has it benefited you?

I am really considering a Paralegal program.I don't know if I should go for the certificate program or the Associates degree.I have been in the medical field for over 12 years and I am ready for a change. I work fulltime and I have children so I would probably do an online program.
Does anyone have any advice about this career change and where a good Paralegal program is in the Bay Area?

Depending on what state you are in you may not even need a certificate. You can start off as a legal assistant, doing Paralegal tasks, then after 2-3 years (I believe) you can go to your county and have the attorney sign off for a different kind of paralegal certificate. It pretty much shows that you have had hands-on paralegal work for a certain amount of years.

Some employers require your degree, but MOST employers require just the certificate.
