My husband works for a cable installing company that installs cable for comcast. He put his two weeks notice in two days ago because he will be getting a new job. When he went to work this morning his boss said, "Well, since you put your two weeks in, we're just gonna let ya go today."
Is this legal, can he really do this? I have no clue but it doesn't seem right to me.

Yes, it is legal, and in fact many employers do this very thing. They assume that since you've committed to another job, your motivation for the current one may be less than stellar, and negatively affect morale during the last 2 weeks of employment. |

yes it is legal and (in most states) your husband will qualify for unemployment for the time he was let go prior to his notice date.
this may not be a lot but it will help until he gets going good again.
in many states since they terminated him immediately that will have an effect on when they must pay him his final wages as well.
is it right? NO but much of life is not right or fair.
have your husband immediately file on-line for unemployment benefits. |

Not only is it legal, its smart on the part of the company...especially in your husband's position. The company is simply mitigating potential Workers Comp claims. |

It's legal -- his resignation was accepted immediately. He can file for unemployment, however, for that period of notice. He may be entitled to a week's worth, depending upon your state of residence. |
