background checks are an expense that some employers don't want to spend on at this time..............................
reference checks are generally done by all employers since they are usually done in house.
you must sign a release for a background check to be done so you will know it if one is done.
background checks are governed by the same laws as credit checks the "Fair Credit Reporting Act". |

NO , I think it depends on the quality of company and the type of position you are applying for. like McDonalds ,, do you think they are going to pay for a background check for every employee they are going to pay minimum wage... yet if you were going to work at a hospital they would want to know more about you.... because alot of companies dont do background checks is why there are so many illegals doing our jobs. |

If a company or HR department is going to run a background check of your information you have to be notified of this and you will need to sign a release authorization form for them to do so. If you are not asked to sign one then I would say they are not running one on you.
There are some companies that do not do this, but there is no list of them any where that you can refer to and find out. |

Typically not. It is an expensive drawn-out process. However, if you are applying for certain jobs, a background check is required.
I managed a 16 person IT Department and everyone I hired got a background check. I'm sure most school districts use them. However, I doubt that a data entry clerk would undergo a background check UNLESS they were applying at a hospital. Get my drift? |

Yes, that is why they have an HR department. It is to prevent lawsuits by hiring a person that is a criminal or has a background that would just invite lawsuits from clients as well as other employees. |
