Does it matter what I put on employment as far as termination?

I was employed with a company (pizza hut, florida) for about 2 1/2 yrs back in 2004. They wanted to promote my girlfriend (at the time) to a shift manager postion. Therefor had asked me to resign bacause of company policy so they could promote. I didn't resign because I need the extra money for finances. So over the next couple months they searched and pressed for a reason to get rid of me. One night a manager and I got in a very stupid argument insignificantly due to him lacking respect. He told me to go home and I didn't (the decision was not up to him, it was up to the other manager). They fired me the next day for not following manager's direct orders.
Since then, on my applications I have not put down that I was fired, rather that I left due to promoting my girlfriend and company policy. I know all jobs don't always contact previous employers, but am I messing up doing this? Can the previous employer tell the new one why I left?

just say

" it wasnt a good fit for either me or the company since we had very different working styles. i am a self starter and i look for work but they wanted to treat me like unskilled help. it was bound to come to an end but i needed the money so i stuck it out as long as i could. "

all the details of this story should have led to a constructive dismissal lawsuit, but that wont go over any better with a potential employer than your termination so i would just call the old company and tell them that you are looking for a new position and you would appreciate it if they did not say anything bad about the terms of your dismissal but that if they did it would be grounds for you to initiate such a lawsuit.

companies are not allowed to ask you to quit unless they have absolute grounds to do so and in those cases its just a face saving formality. if they had the right to fire you they would have and instead they put you through hell till you cracked that is illegal.

1st off, you don't want to lie on a job application. I don't think your answer is a lie. It is the truth. There is more to the story.... but your answer on the application can be explained if you are ever questioned about it.

Most companies will not go into detail about the reasons why your employment was terminated. Most will just list your dates of employment and your salary history.

yes they can , some won't but there is no law that prevents them, you will hear that employers can only ask certain questions, some may decline to answer but many will tell all pertinent information as long as it is truthful
