I am 28 weeks pregnant and I left work on monday in severe pain in my tailbone and pelvis. I went to the hospital, stayed overnight and the doctor wrote me off of work for the remaining part of the week. Before I left for the hospital, my supervisor (also in charge of HR) handed me a list of information to update her on as soon as I was able. Including the "exact diagnosis" for which I was being treated. Does she have the right to ask me this? Shouldn't a doctor's note stating my restrictions be enough?
This was not an injury requiring worker's compensation.

She has the right to ask. There are situations where the employer must offer ADA or FMLA to you and without a diagnosis, the employer cannot.
The doctor's note has little meaning -- the employer needs more information, especially if you are needing time off from work. |

The doctor's note is sufficient. The information she is probably asking for may be just for them to update their records so that they can better help you if there is a need to. If you do not wish to answer any of their questions, then it is against the law for them to ask. It falls under the equal opportunity employment act. It's doctor patient confidentiality and you can choose not to say. If they threaten you, go see a lawyer and sue the hell out of them. |

Your boss has no right to ask that. The Dr. note on restrictions is enough. |
