If i have a part time job somewhere and i work on a saturday, are all the hours I work automatically counted as overtime? also, does overtime mean they pay double? (even if it is not over the 40 hours a week by california law)

in california overtime is:
1&1/2 times reg. rate for over 8 hours a day(regardless of total for the week)
1&1/2 time reg. rate for over 40 hours in a week
1&1/2 time reg. rate for the first 8 hours of the seventh day worked of a workweek(regardless of total hours for the week)
2 times reg. rate for over 12 hours a day(regardless of total for the week)
2 times reg. rate for over 8 hours of the seventh day worked of a workweek(regardless of total hours for the week)
there are no requirements for overtime pay for holidays, weekends, scheduled days off etcetera.

Overtime is usually over 8 hours in a single day or 40 hours in a week.
It doesn't matter what days you actually work................. |

nope! not count as overtime if you job normally works on those days...same with holidays. if they are normally open on holidays they do not have to pay overtime. |

Most states (except California) follow federal overtime laws which is 1 1/2 times your base rate for "work performed" over 40 hours per regular work week. There is no federal law for "double time". |

No, if it's not over 40 hours a week (or in CA, over 8 hours a day) then you don't get overtime pay. |

No, overtime means just that... over regular hours. If your contract states you get holiday or weekend pay differential, that would be the increase in pay. |
