Proper protocol would have been to advise you of the drug found and if it was of a questionable nature (could be due to a certain medication) they would have advised you to retake the test that same day and bring in the meds. I had a particular case where they found cocaine in the employees system. He swore he didn't do drugs but due to a medication he was taking. We gave him the benefit of the doubt to appear that same day with the meds (companies will not or should not allow an additional day to go by to be retested). He never came back and still argued the test was wrong. In short, you have every right to contest this finding and you should have been allowed to retake the test that same day you were told of the findings.

False positives are not uncommon. If the screen showed a drug that you have not used, by all means, ask for more detailed followup testing.

Companies that do drug testing look for much more than "trace" ammounts. You could eat 15 poppy-seed covered bagals, and it would only show as a 'trace" for opium in your blood or urine sample...that isn't enough for a "positive" reading on a drug test to be reported back to an employer.

There are thresholds that are considered before the results are reported, and you have to meet that threshold before a test is considered a positive result. In otherwords, you had to have more than a trace of something for them to fail you.

An illegal drug is ANY drug that you take that is either illegal by law, or illegal by prescription (if you took someone else's meds that you didn't have a script for).

Drug tests also test for substances found in "test clean" kits that people buy at the drug store...and this is an automatic fail if these chemicals are found in your system.

They also asked you for a list of ANY medications (over-the-counter and prescription) you were taking prior to the drug test....and before they fail you, they will contact you to give you the opportunity for you to provide a prescription.

Sorry, technology is too far advanced for the test to be wrong.

Depends on the company's policy - most places allow for a retest depending on the substance in question. They may also allow you to verify with a doctor if the substance is available by prescription (to see if you have a valid Rx)

i think that it depends on that state that you live in....in texas you can, but you also have to pay for a new one...and still then the company does not have to give you a second chance
