Check your contract, but most standard contracts in the UK will say:
- You must give one week's notice during your probation
- This notice must be in writing

If you received a contract/conditions of employment when you started it should tell you in there but, generally speaking, no notice is required whilst on probation. However, if there's any chance you may need this employer as a reference in future or there's any possibility you won't get properly paid if you walk out then give them 1 or 2 weeks written notice. There is also a question of integrity and ethics as to whether just walking out is correct of course......................

Yes but you probably only have to work a week's notice instead of the usual month. Check with your HR / Personnel dept.

If you are in probabtion you can do what you like. Go to your boss and tell him to stick it and walk out!!

If you want to get paid for the work you have done though, I would write a letter and give them a weeks notice

Why do people always worry about this sort of thing.
You are not obliged by law to have to work any sort of notice period even if you have worked for a company for 50 years.
If you want to just leave and never come back you can do that any time you want without the need to write down why or give an explanation.

However it is politer and more professional to at least give the company some notice time so that they can start recruiting for new staff.

It is always a good idea to leave on good terms - in case a reference is needed. The best way to deal with it is check with your HR department.

Most probably they would expect a written letter of resignation and a weeks notice, try to give them that anyway - it can only look good on your part.

At any time you still have to give notice in writing - if you don't the employer can say you just walked out and keep any outstanding money owed to you.

1 week's notice is required while you on your initial probationary period.

as it is only your trial period you do not have to give any notice to quit - you can either work the rest of you trial or just leave and not go in again

It is always most professional to give 2 weeks' notice, in writing, before leaving a job. However, you can legally leave a job at any time, for any reason, with or without notice, unless you have an employment contract in place that specifies differently. Because you haven't been there very long, the HR Fairy will not penalize you if you decide to leave sooner.

Please do give notice in writing, though - that will ensure that there are no misunderstandings and that you receive your last check in accordance with the pay practices of your state law.

Just discuss it with your boss - today can be your last day or you can give him a few days notice - whatever is convienent for both of you. You might want to work to the end of the pay period.

I gave my employer my resignation today but she told me that i won't get paid for the whole month due to the fact that i only gave them 1 week noticed instead of 4 weeks? though in my contract stated that i have to give them 4 weeks or else i wont be aid because i awe them money. advice?

my probationary contract states that once made a regular employee i can not resign for one year and after a year should i decide to resign, I can not be associated with similar companies for a year. I was made regular last feb 2,2011 but they did not give me any regular contract to sign and they just gave me a php 2000 salary increase. can i resign without breach of contract? thanks
